Uppada Sarees
Uppada sarees are one of South India's most exquisite and least-known silk treasures — woven in the small coastal town of Uppada in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh using a unique Jamdani technique that creates a fabric of extraordinary sheerness, lightness, and intricate beauty. Unlike most South Indian silks which are woven on a pit loom with a heavy, structured drape, Uppada silk is woven using a technique where the motifs are inlaid into the fabric as it is woven — creating designs that seem to float within the cloth like shadows on water.
