Assam Sarees - Golden Magic of Silks
Assam Sarees — The Golden Magic of Muga, Pat & Eri Silk
From the lush river valleys of Assam comes one of India's most extraordinary and least-known silk traditions — a trio of handwoven silks that are found nowhere else on earth. Muga silk, with its natural golden sheen that deepens with every wash, is unique to Assam and is one of the world's rarest and most prized textiles. Pat silk, lustrous and smooth, is woven into the iconic Mekhela Chador — Assam's traditional two-piece drape. Eri silk, the "fabric of peace", is spun without harming the silkworm and is beloved for its warmth and texture. At Luxurion World, our Assam sarees are sourced directly from the weavers of the Brahmaputra valley, paying above-fair compensation to preserve these extraordinary GI-tagged traditions.
The Three Silks of Assam
- Muga Silk — Natural golden silk unique to Assam, GI-tagged, grows more lustrous with age
- Pat Silk — Smooth, lustrous white silk woven into traditional Mekhela Chadors and sarees
- Eri Silk — Ahimsa silk, warm and textured, spun without harming the silkworm
