Ilkal Sarees - Woven Temple
Ilkal sarees are the pride of northern Karnataka — handwoven in the town of Ilkal in Bagalkot district using a distinctive technique where the body and pallu are woven separately and then joined, creating the characteristic contrast border that is the hallmark of an authentic Ilkal. The sarees are woven in a silk-cotton blend with a characteristic ribbed texture, and the pallu is often adorned with traditional Kasuti embroidery — a running stitch folk embroidery unique to Karnataka. A GI-tagged craft of extraordinary regional identity, the Ilkal saree is the everyday heirloom of Karnataka's women.
