Patola Dupattas - Mirrored Ikat

Patola dupattas are among the rarest and most technically extraordinary textile objects in the world — woven in Patan, Gujarat using the double Ikat technique where both the warp and weft threads are individually resist-dyed in precise patterns before weaving, so that the design locks perfectly into place as the fabric is woven. This process — which can take months for a single piece — is so demanding that only a handful of families in Patan still practice it, making authentic Patola one of the most GI-tagged and culturally protected textiles in India. The characteristic geometric patterns of Patola — the pan bhat, nari kunjar, and vohra gaji designs — are instantly recognisable and have been prized by royalty, merchants, and collectors across Asia for over 900 years.
