Bandhani Sarees - Tied Horizons

Bandhani Sarees — India's Ancient Art of Tied Horizons

Bandhani — from the Sanskrit word "bandha" meaning "to tie" — is one of India's oldest and most joyful textile traditions, with a history stretching back over 5,000 years. The technique is deceptively simple and extraordinarily labour-intensive: tiny portions of cloth are tied with thread before dyeing, creating resist patterns that emerge as dots, waves, squares, and intricate geometric designs when the ties are removed. A single Bandhani saree can contain thousands of individually hand-tied knots — each one placed with precision by the nimble fingers of artisans from Rajasthan and Gujarat who have been practising this art since childhood. The result is a saree that seems to vibrate with colour and movement — the dots and patterns catching the light differently with every step. At Luxurion World, our Bandhani sarees are sourced directly from the master tie-dye artisans of Jamnagar, Bhuj, Jodhpur, and Jaipur — paying above-fair compensation to preserve this ancient and joyful tradition.
