Bandhani

Bandhani is one of India's oldest and most vibrant textile traditions — a resist-dyeing craft where thousands of tiny points of fabric are hand-knotted with thread before dyeing, creating the characteristic dotted patterns that have adorned Indian women for over 5,000 years. Originating in the Kutch and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat and the cities of Rajasthan, Bandhani derives its name from the Sanskrit word 'bandha' — meaning to tie. Each saree can contain anywhere from a few hundred to over 75,000 individual hand-tied knots, making it a true labour of artisan devotion.
