The history of ‘chikankari’ is as royal as it is. It is believed to have been introduced by Nur Jehan, wife of Mughal emperor, Jehangir, making it one of Lucknow’s best known textile decoration styles. Chikan began as a type of white-on-white embroidery. It evolved with time and nowadays it is also done with coloured and silk threads to meet the fashion trends. It has also undergone a facelift by introducing additional embellishments like mirror, bead or sequin work to elevate its look further.
