Pongal

The harvest festival of South India, Pongal is dedicated to the Sun God, the Surya, marking the end of winter Solstice and the start of the Sun’s six-month-long journey of Uttarayan. The festival is named after the ceremonial ‘Pongal’ which is a traditional dish prepared from the new harvest of rice boiled in milk with jaggery. Festive celebrations include decorating cow and their horns, ritual bathing offering prayers, decorating rice-powder kolam artwork and getting together to exchange gifts and meals with friends and family.

During Pongal, women wear Kanjeevaram sarees with heavy jewelry. The days of celebration should be special in all ways! Let us at Luxurion World help you with a few unique choices of ethnic wear for the occasion.

Green handloom Kanjeevram pure silk checks saree
Green is the color of lush foliage of crops of harvest, of the Earth in its full bloom. This green Kanjeevram saree denotes all this and is apt for the festival that celebrates agriculture and its produce. Match it with gold earrings and bangles to get a traditional feel of the fest.

Pastel handloom Knajeevaram organza
If you are someone who looks a bit of modernity and convenience with traditional fervor, organza Kanjeevram is your best bet. Light and easy to drape, it is for those who feel heavy silks are not for the entire day. Pair this pastel handloom Kanjeevram organza with heavy jewelry in Kundan or gold for an opulent look.
