Patola

Patola

Patola means Queen of Silks. Patola is a double ikat woven material, usually made from silk, made in Patan, Gujarat, India. Velvet patola styles are also made in Surat. Patola-weaving is a closely guarded family tradition. There are only three families in Patan that weave these highly prized double ikat saris and dupattas. It is said that this technique is taught to no one in the family, but only to the sons. Paithani weaving is well known for their highly delicate patterns. Geometric designs with folk motifs are characteristic features of Patola dupattas. The outcome of the ikat or tie-dye method, applied to the traditional silk fabric, has created colorful Patola dupattas sensations. A Patola dupatta is a prized possession for every owner and it deserves to be. So, next time you are in mood to buy a dupatta go for this royal, grandeur dupatta that spell out elegance and grace.
