Ikat is a unique design created on the fabric with a special tie& dye process where binding bundles of threads with a tight wrapping is applied in the desired pattern. The threads are then dyed. The bindings may then be altered and the thread bundles dyed again with another color to produce elaborate, multicolored patterns. When the dyeing is finished the bindings are removed and the threads are woven into cloth. Ikat Sarees are hand woven and entire process from dying to final product can take up to 5-7 months. Ikat is woven in 2-forms: single Ikat & double Ikat. Ikat is prevalent in 3 states – Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. Ikat history goes back to 12th century when artisans from the Patan region of modern day Gujarat migrated to Orrisa and carried forward the craft. Silk Ikat Sarees needs a gentle hand wash or dry cleaning with ironing at a moderate temperature. Cotton Ikat Sarees can be washed in a machine. Luxurionworld offers wide variety of Ikat Sarees. These products are procured directly from Weavers.
