Madhubani sarees represent our country’s strongest and most versatile style staple. With the spotlight on the variance of its version, the designers are coming up with novel ideas of expression of various art forms to give a saree the touch of uniqueness. One such beautiful work is the art form of Madhubani sarees. Scenes and deity from ancient epics also feature in their portrayal apart from social events like marriage and childbirth.

FABRIC: Tussar Silk , also often referred to as ‘Wild Silk, Tassar Silk, or Tusar Silk is an exquisite thread obtained from a wide winged moth that is yellowish-brown in colour. Tussar silk is a lot more textured than any other variety of Silk. The fabric is also cooler than the other varieties and is a lot more porous, therefore, breathable. Being cooler than the other varieties of Silk makes Tussar extremely wearable in warmer parts of the world. Tussar silk has shorter fibres, which makes it less durable. It has a dull gold sheen.

FABRIC: Muga Silk is made from the semi-cultivated silkworm. It is organic and natural and has the strongest natural fibre. Muga silk (Muga Paat) or the golden silk is not only a nature's gift to Assam, but also a symbol of rich Assamese culture. It represents the brilliance of traditional attire of the region. The most significant characteristic of 'Muga silk' is its golden bright hue. Its name is derived from Assamese word 'Muga', which means yellow. The fabric is superior in every respect in comparison to the normal white silk that is available all over the world. It is also much more durable. With time it only becomes more beautiful. Muga silk's brightness improves with every wash. It's no wonder that Muga silk is one of the costliest silks available in the world. Today, the cost of Muga silk is so high that for a middle-class woman in Assam it has become a prized possession, just as her gold ornaments.
