Details

This Handloom Sambalpuri Saree from Orissa has been woven using the resist-dyeing/Ikat technique, which produces the unique patterns adorning the fabric. It is produced in the Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Balangir district, Boudh District of Odisha. Sambalpuri Sarees are known for their incorporation of traditional motifs like shankha (shell), chakra (wheel), phula (flower), all of which have deep symbolism, but the highpoint of these Sarees is the traditional craftsmanship of the 'Bandhakala', the Tie-dye art reflected in their intricate weaves, also known as Sambalpuri ""Ikkat"". In this technique, the threads are first tie-dyed and later woven into a fabric, with the entire process taking many weeks. FABRIC: Cotton fabric is a natural fabric and is used to make light weight sarees. This material is a favorite because it keeps the wearer cool and is easily washed. Cotton fabric is very popular in a tropical country like India, because of the soft twist imparted by the hand, maintains the hairiness of the yarn to an extent, which gives maximum comfort. Cotton is used to create beautiful saris and is an integral part of the sari weaving tradition of India.CARE: Before washing a cotton saree for the first time, soak it for 10-15 minutes in a bucket of warm water mixed with rock salt. This will ensure that the colour latches on to the saree and will prevent the saree from ‘bleeding’ colour during subsequent washes. Use only a mild detergent to wash a cotton saree. Do not wring it vigorously; instead, hang it over a water-tap and allow the excess water to drain off, always starch cotton sarees (after wash) to ensure that they retain their crispness and stay stain-free. Hang the saree to dry in a shaded area only as allowing the sun’s rays to directly hit the saree will cause the colour to fade. Store the saree is an airy cupboard that is devoid of humidity and direct sunlight. Note: There may be a slight colour variation in the image from original product due to various reasons like configuration of computer monitor, colour scheme of computer, lighting of the photograph etc.
