Ajrakh is a block-printed textile that is resist-dyed using natural dyes. Its name is derived from ‘azzarak’, ‘blue’ in Arabic, and Persian. Ajrakh dye fabric is distinguished by its color – blue with red, though now many more colors have made way to the glory of this fabric. The complex geometric and floral pattern is a printing that takes fourteen to twenty-one days to complete. A remarkable feature of ajrakh printing is that on a single fabric, using the same design, the whole process is repeated on both sides of it in perfect cohesion.
