Ahmed Shah founded Ahmedabad in a.d. 1412, on the site of the old city of Ashaval.The Ashavali saris of Ahmedabad known for their beautiful Brocade borders and pallus take their name from the ancient town Ashaval and Believed by some to have influenced the brocade traditions of Benaras through the migration of Gujarati weavers.Ashavali sarees are distinguished by the enamelled look of the border—which are sometimes woven onto Patola sarees—and the interwoven designs.
