Mekhela chadar is the traditional Assamese dresses worn by women. There are two main pieces of cloth that are draped around the body. The bottom portion, draped from the waist downwards is called the mekhela . It is in the form of a very wide cylinder that is folded into pleats to fit around the waist and tucked in. The top portion of a long length of cloth that has one end tucked into the upper portion of the Mekhela and the rest draped over and around the rest of the body Invariably there is a blouse that is worn underneath the top half of the body. Traditional Mekhela Chadors are made from the cotton, Muga and Pat materials. It is the women weavers of Assam who are the real people behind the production of the Mekhela Chadors. The main hub of these Mekhela Chadors is a tiny town called Sualkuchi, situated at just 35 kilometers from the city of Guwahati. Sualkuchi is responsible for the majority of the Mekhela Chadors that are being manufactured in Assam. The Mekhela Chadors made in this small town are highly sought after by women in Assam and the rest of India, alike. Sualkuchi is also known as the Manchester of Assam. Luxurionworld offers wide variety of Mekhela Chador, which are procured directly from the weavers.

FABRIC: Silk is widely regarded as the most luxurious textile on the planet. It is a natural fiber produced from the cocoons of mulberry silkworm via a process called Sericulture.Indian Silk fabrics are world famous for their exquisite colors and bold patterns.. It is created by twisting 2-filaments together to create a sturdier and more durable fabric. Due to the nature of its creation, it also makes an interesting textured background for any work that is to be done on the fabric to make it unique. It is known for its versatility, softness and comfort. It can be weakened by sunlight and perspiration. The elasticity of a silk fabric is poor, hence if stretched; it takes the shape as it is. It can be weakened if exposed to too much sunlight. It may also be attacked by insects, especially if left dirty.
