This Handloom Sambalpuri Silk Saree from Orissa has been woven using the resist-dyeing/Ikat technique, which produces the unique patterns adorning the fabric. It is produced in the Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Balangir district, Boudh District of Odisha. Sambalpuri Sarees are known for their incorporation of traditional motifs like shankha (shell), chakra (wheel), phula (flower), all of which have deep symbolism, but the highpoint of these Sarees is the traditional craftsmanship of the 'Bandhakala', the Tie-dye art reflected in their intricate weaves, also known as Sambalpuri ""Ikkat"". In this technique, the threads are first tie-dyed and later woven into a fabric, with the entire process taking many weeks.

FABRIC: Tussar Silk , also often referred to as ‘Wild Silk, Tassar Silk, or Tusar Silk is an exquisite thread obtained from a wide winged moth that is yellowish-brown in colour. Tussar silk is a lot more textured than any other variety of Silk. The fabric is also cooler than the other varieties and is a lot more porous, therefore, breathable. Being cooler than the other varieties of Silk makes Tussar extremely wearable in warmer parts of the world. Tussar silk has shorter fibres, which makes it less durable. It has a dull gold sheen.

Ghicha Silk is a high quality fabric, which provide glossy look to the saree. Its high quality natural fabrics makes it more durable and long lasting. Besides, there are numerous features of the fabric such as light weight, durable, shrinkage free and smooth texture, which make Ghicha Silk the most demanding fabric. Ghicha silk actually is the by product of tussar silk. Produced in eastern states of India like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, the yarns of Ghicha silk are obtained from the cocoons of tussar silk that cannot have the silk yarns reeled naturally and hence these cocoons are ruptured and the silk is reeled manually.
