FABRIC: Dupioni Silk (meaning double) is produced when two or more silkworms spin their cocoons closely together. Dupion silk is the most widely known silk and is made in India. It is a medium weight silk and has a slub that gives it a textured effect. Dupioni has a crisp, scrunchy hand, a rough, uneven texture and a dull luster. This silk is easy to dye so fabrics are often brightly colored. Dupioni silk is a handwoven silk that is traditionally dyed with a variety of vegetable-based dyes. Newly woven silk is stiff to the touch. Washing the material however, softens it and shrinks the silk by up to 25 percent. This shrinkage is problematic when dealing with store-bought clothing, but by washing the fabric before sewing, you can get the shrinkage out of the way.
CARE: It is advisable to dry clean the fabric. May use hot iron if needed. This fabric can show water spots, so be careful if using steam in the iron. It is best to store in a closet, do not hang for any length of time in a place where sunlight falls directly on the garment. Prolonged exposure to direct light can fade the color.
Note: There may be a slight colour variation in the image from original product due to various reasons like configuration of computer monitor, colour scheme of computer, lighting of the photograph etc.
