The Kantha embroidery work on Stoles has helped in keeping alive a folk art of Bengal's women. They would often narrate various incidents of their life on fabric with needles, threads and stitches. The Kantha stoles are made of fine cotton and silk material. In Kantha Stoles, the traditional running stitches accompany other stitches such as the chain, herring-bone, double herring bone, and cross stitch. Today the darning stitch is also being used in different ways. The traditional designs and techniques of Kantha embroidery gained greater global recognition when they were used by renowned designer Tarun Tahiliani for his summer/resort 2013 collection. Kantha work on Stoles is mesmeric with contemporary patterns and hand embroidery using West Bengals traditional craft technique of Kantha.
